Points to Remember If You Want to Buy Boats Online

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michalis_Economides]Michalis Economides
These days many people own their own boats or yachts. For some it is essential, for others is just fun. For others, possessing a big luxurious boat or yacht is just a way of exhibiting wealth and luxury. In the old days people used to visit dock areas and buy boats which suited them most. However the scenario is completely different these days. So to make life easier for boat-lovers from the time-consuming task to buy or sell boats, or to compare new and used ones etc online companies have come out with their latest services.
Life has never been so easy before the epoch-making emergence and world wide popularity of World Wide Web. Now, people can check online for boats, yachts, jet-skis, engines, trailers and to compare them by price or features, and make the wisest choice to buy. It is even easy for owners to sell their boats, yachts, jet-skis, engines or trailers. But before you buy or sell boats, you must keep in mind few points to enjoy a hassle-free boating experience.
What do you want?
For a person who wants to buy boats, the very first question is what do you want? Are you looking for a fishing boat, a weekend boat or a luxurious yacht? Boats are available in different types, shapes and sizes. So without knowing what kind of boat you actually want to buy, it can be really difficult to go further. There are over hundreds of boat types like motor boats, yachts, sailing boats, cruisers, small boats, houseboats etc. Before making your final choice about boats, you need to compare their features from several websites.
Hire an agent or buy boats straight from owners?
Whether you want to buy or sell boats, agents are everywhere. So if you want to spare yourself from taking up the hazardous task of doing everything of your own, agents are there to help you out. But if you do want to get in between seller and agents, then you can search for people who want to sell boats directly to the buyer. So whether you want to buy boats or sell boats, you need to decide first about the intermediate.
Take expert advice if needed.
Except from buying or selling, the whole procedure includes value assessment, financing, insurance, transportation cost etc. which need to be handled very carefully. But if you are not sure about your expertise in these matters, then do not hesitate to take help of professional advisers who can guide you properly. Remember that settling out these matters is important if you are serious about buying boats. Compare new and used boats can help you if there is a budget constraint.
Check thoroughly and read reviews.
To buy boats may sound exciting, but don't forget to check you final choice thoroughly. If it is not possible for you to go and check it yourself, then try to go through the online reviews on boats and get as much as details you can. Compare their status, condition, brand, distance of shipment, year built, fuel type, engine model etc. While testimonials are most often spoof, users' reviews are more genuine and reliable.
Go for a trial boating.
Before you buy boats, if possible then ask for a trial boating experience to the owner who wants to sell a boat to you. Thus, you will be able to check the steering and performance of gear etc. Furthermore, if there are minor issues which are difficult to trace over the internet, you can discover them during the trial.
Last but not least, whether you want to buy boats, sell boats, or compare them or check the latest offerings, consult experts.

All About Boat Making Kits, Part 2

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Denton]John Denton
Once you've acquired a set of boat plans and are ready to shop around for supplies, you'll find that many of items you need are not available in your typical hardware store. This is where you'll need to check marine suppliers for boat making kits. These kits are the best source for all the special tools and supplies required for boat building.
You can find these plywood boat building supplies in kit form:
Power Tool with Attachments- A power tool and a variety of attachments for scraping, grinding and sanding are available in kit form. Check the equipment provided with your boat plans to see if a power tool is recommended.
Fastening Kits - When constructing a boat from plywood boat plans, the screws and nails used must resist corrosion and provide a tight seal. Marine fastening kits provide bronze annular nails and silicon bronze screws. These fasteners are recommended by boat building experts because of their strength and durability.
Epoxy - Many parts of a plywood boat are glued together with epoxy or receive an epoxy coating for waterproofing and extra protection from the elements. Epoxy is also used for plywood boat repair. Look for epoxy kits that include resin and a good selection of disposable mixing sticks, gloves and brushes for applying the epoxy. Many kits also include rollers and trays.
Stitch & Glue- Many plywood boat plans call for the stitch and glue technique which uses epoxy, fiberglass tape and wire ties. Stitch & Glue kits include the proper amounts of epoxy resin, wood filler, fiberglass tape and copper stitching wire. Most kits are priced lower than if the components are bought separately and there is no need to guess about the correct amount of each item to buy.
Fiberglass Covering- If your plywood boat plans call for fiberglass covering, look for a kit that includes epoxy resin, fiberglass cloth and resin hardener. Many covering kits also supply the tools needed for fiberglass application such as brushes and rollers. Make sure the kit includes complete instructions for cutting the fiberglass cloth and applying the resin.
Sailboats - When using plywood boat plans for a sailboat, looks for kits that include rigging and sail hardware such as cleats and goosenecks. You can save money with sail kits that include precut sails in standard sizes as opposed to ordering custom-made sails. If you're building a plywood dinghy, you can buy a sail kit that includes a collapsible aluminum mast and all necessary hardware.
Boat Trailer - If you plan on towing your boat, you can buy a boat trailer kit that includes precut and predrilled galvanized steel or aluminum along with galvanized wheels. Some kits supply a DOT-approved lighting system while others require you to buy a separate lighting kit.
Many boat kits for smaller watercraft such as canoes and kayaks come with all the required wood. For larger plywood boats, it makes more sense to buy marine lumber from a local source and avoid the cost of shipping the wood with the boat kit.

About Boat Making Kits, Part 1

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Denton]John Denton
Some of the specialized supplies and tools used to build a boat from wooden boat plans are not available at a regular hardware store. Instead, they can be purchased from marine supply stores where they usually come packaged in kit form. These kits are a great source for all of the special items needed to build a wooden boat. When you purchase a boat kit, make sure to get one that is intended for wooden boats. Wood, aluminum and fiberglass each require a specific kit.
Look for these items in kits to be used with wooden boat plans:
Marine Tool Kit- A set of rust-resistant, chrome-plated tools are useful when building any type of boat or boat trailer. A multipurpose power tool kit can also be purchased with attachments for sanding, scraping, grinding and removing dust.
Stitch and Glue- Wooden boat plans that require stitch and glue construction need special supplies like copper stitching wire and fiberglass tape and resin. These items will be included in a stitch and glue kit.
Marine Fasteners- Wooden boats require fastening hardware that is corrosion-resistant and extra strong. Bronze annular nails and silicon bronze screws are the recommended fasteners for boats. They can be purchased in a marine fastener kit.
Sailboat Supplies - If your wooden boat plans are for a sailboat, a variety of sailboat-specific supplies are available in kit form. Rigging kits include the lines, shrouds and halyards that support the mast and sails. A sailing hardware kit includes specialized hardware such as gudgeons, blocks, cleats, goosenecks, pintles and eye straps. Hardware for masts and booms can also be purchased in a kit.
Sails - You can save money by purchasing sail kits that provide precut sails in standard sizes instead of ordering custom-made sails. If you're building a dinghy, you may want to buy a sail kit that includes a collapsible aluminum mast.
Epoxy - Some wooden and laminate parts of the boat may call for epoxy for waterproofing and strength. Epoxy is also commonly used for boat repairs. Epoxy kits include epoxy resin and supplies used for mixing and application such as trays, mixing sticks, rollers, brushes and gloves.
Fiberglass Resin- If your wooden boat plans call for a portion of your boat to be treated with fiberglass resin, look for a fiberglass covering kit. This kit will usually include epoxy resin and hardener and fiberglass cloth. Most kits also include some of the tools used to apply resin, including rollers, brushes and squeegees.
Boat Trailer - For boats that are less than 15 feet, you can build a trailer from a kit. Many kits provide all the materials you'll need, including a galvanized steel frame, a DOT-approved light system and galvanized wheels.
Unless your wooden boat plans are for a personal watercraft like a canoe or kayak, you won't find boat kids that include plywood, lumber and other basic construction materials. It's less expensive to buy your wood at a local lumber yard than to pay shipping coasts for a boat building kit that includes it.

Benefits of Valuable Boat Repair Services

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Steven_K_White]Steven K White
Fishermen and mostly people who are finding ways to spend their leisure time take advantage of the usefulness of fiberglass boats because as weighed against wooden boats these possess more admirable qualities when it comes to strength.
However, damages are inevitable for fiberglass boats because they are commonly obtained from the contacts of water waves or specific deterioration from the inner wood part of the boat. As boats are often used, boat owners find simple ways to fix simple breaks. In order to maintain your boats functionality, all you need is ample familiarities of its parts, the basic steps for repairs and the equipment needed to put it back to its good condition.

Selecting a Boat That's Right For You

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jerry_Chiappetta,_Jr._]Jerry Chiappetta, Jr.
With so many different makes, models and styles of boats available it can really make your head spin like Linda Blair! It's very easy to end up spending a lot of unnecessary time and money traveling to see boats that look attractive in style and price, but are really not the boats that are right for your needs. The very first step to get started in the right direction is to know exactly what type of boating you plan on doing and how you realistically plan on using the boat. Ask yourself these questions...
Are you more interested in a powerboat or in a sailboat? If you live in a shallow water area, remember that sailboats require more depth to operate.
Where exactly do you plan on doing most of your boating adventures?
Do you intend on taking short weekend trips and spending just a night or two on the boat?
When you head out to go boating, how many people do you plan on taking with you each time?
Do you intend to do lots of long range boating spending weeks at a time on your boat?
Are you planning on simply entertaining friends and family for some day boating sightseeing adventures?
Do you need a boat that you can water ski or wake board behind and if so, how many people to you plan on taking with you?
Do you feel that you will be using the boat primarily for offshore deep sea fishing?
Would you prefer a boat that enables you to cruise and fish?
Are you planning to primarily do backwater saltwater or fresh water fishing in more shallow waters?
How are you planning to store your boat? (Inside Dry Rack Storage - In the Water at a Dock - On a Boat Lift - On a Trailer)
Do you need a trailer with your boat? If so, the beam of the boat is something to consider so contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles regarding boat trailer requirements.
If you're considering smaller boats in the 18' to 24' size range, many people would like a Cuddy Cabin to get out of the sun or rain. However, if you plan on boating in Florida for example, unless you have a generator with air conditioning a Cuddy Cabin boat is not really that practical especially in states with extremely hot Summer months. You can plug in 12 volt isolating fans and open the cabin hatch(s), but it still can get pretty darn hot in the cabin. In addition, having a small Cuddy Cabin will limit the number of passengers you can take with you on the boat since you lose a large part of the outside seating areas compared to a Bow Riders or a Deck Boat. If having a privacy head is the only reason for your considering a Cuddy Cabin, it's important to know that many small Bow Rider models have a locking privacy head and locking dry storage area compartments as well.
Once you know exactly how you plan on using the boat, you're half way there! The next step is to decide on a budget that you would like to keep within and be sure to realize that there will be State Sales Tax added to your purchase and you will need to insure the boat as well. Having a Certified Marine Surveyor inspect the boat before closing is something that we always suggest to our clients. In addition, if you are financing the boat, most finance companies will require a Certified Marine Survey Inspection on the vessel and the time to have the inspection conducted is before closing on the boat, not after.
It's real easy to spend a lot of time and money going after boats because they appear to have a good value...but instead have known issues with particular makes and models that you may not be aware of. The next step is to find a licensed and bonded yacht and ship broker to get professional sound advise as to what boat or yacht would best suit your exact needs. Don't be afraid to ask to view the Yacht and Ship Broker's license and if one can not be provided to you, simply find another broker to work for you. The Broker's commission is paid by the seller, not the buyer so having a broker with their Yacht Broker Credentials on line for you to view is your best bet.
We'll see you out on the water!

How to Pack for a Kayak Trip [Part 1]

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Cody_D]Cody D
Part 1.
If you're going on a kayak trip for the first time you're probably overloaded and possibly frustrated by the amount of gear you're thinking about bringing. In this article I will be going over some minimalist gear you may want to bring with you and afterwards will be going over some leisure items if you still have room in your kayak and are in no rush to finish your trip.
If you're a backpacker you should already know what to bring, just keep in mind that you can fit quite a bit more in the kayak than you can in a backpack so try to bring some more comfortable gear.
If you are going out of the country don't forget to your passport into a submersible drybag! It is extremely important that the drybag or drybox be submersible, if it isn't you have the potential of ruining this important document. Dryboxes are quite affordable and get the job done, I have kept mine on the outside of my kayak for at least a dozen trips and there was no moisture in the box at all. However, I have used drybags (storm proof) which have gotten moisture in them.
Obviously you are going to want to bring some form of lightweight tent (a 2 person or less should fit fine in your bow or stern compartment). I would suggest a free standing tent. During one trip in Northern Canada we had set camp on a very rocky beach and my solo tent was having trouble staying up without a good place to steak it. Some people prefer hammocks as well, hammocks are much more compact and lightweight - so if you are a minimalist definitely consider a quality hammock. Make sure you have a rain fly for whatever you are going to sleep in as well. Also make sure you don't set your tent on the edge of a cliff. I have witnessed cliffs fall straight into rivers before - you only really have to worry about this if it is a dirt cliff and if there has been a lot of rain.
A sleeping bag is kind of optional. A lightweight/compact sleeping bag is a must though, you can't bring one of those giant bedroll sleepingbags you get at a local chain superstore. If you are going to be in a hammock a fleece blanket will do you just fine. They make sleeping bag liners which will work fine as well assuming you aren't going into an extremely cold environment. A 20 degree or 40 degree bag should be good and compact enough for most trips, it will keep you warm and comfortable during cold and damp nights.
Bring a lifejacket. Some rivers are very shallow but have extremely deep spots in them. The last thing you want to do is bump your head on a rock and then get taken by the river to a very deep area (which usually will come after a rocky area) and drown. This is a reality, never underestimate the power of a river. I have seen people break bones on the river before.
This brings me to the next thing. First aid. Do not skip a first aid kit. Get one with wound cleaning supplies, a blood clotter and add duct tape to it. You'll probably have things to use as braces along the river, but if you can bring a wrist brace at the very least.
It isn't a bad idea to bring a spare paddle either. I had a carbon-fiber lendal paddle which snapped in half on a rough river. I had flipped over, the paddle got caught between some rocks and my loaded boat (filled with rocks) went right over it and snapped it. Luckily my group had two spare paddles. A paddle leash is also a very good idea to have. I never actually bought one, but I made one with paracord, a carabiner and a velcro wrap, the total cost was about two dollars.
At least one-hundred feet of rope is good. I usually bring one-hundred feet of paracord is necessary. (Also known as 550 cord, because it can hold up to 550 pounds.) Sometimes you need to line your boat down a rough area that you aren't able to get through because it is either a) too narrow or b) too many hairpin turns that you wouldn't be able to make in a touring boat. Another use for rope is to tie your kayak up to a tree. A few years ago I went on a river that was flooded sixteen-feet. One morning my boat was half-way in the water despite the fact that I brought it a good twenty feet from the river. Luckily it was tied to a tree.
A helmet is a good idea if you are going onto a river with class III or higher rapids in it. There are times when there will be trees laying across the river (sweepers) and you are being pushed straight into it and may not be able to get out in time (maybe because there is a hairpin turn right before it) and you will hit your noggin on the tree trunk and wish it was protected.
If you aren't going onto such a rough river bring a hat to keep that sun off your face. Bring an extra hat just in case you lose it to the river. It is never a good feeling losing your favourite hat to the water.
A bilge pump is almost a must. I say almost because you can get by without it by tipping your kayak to get water out if you're on land. Despite that fact, a big sponge is absolutely a must - especially if you are unfortunate enough to have a leak in one of your compartments and need to get the water out of there asap.
Another absolute necessity is a map. Make sure everyone has a map. It is not a bad idea to bring a waterproof GPS device with you if you aren't very good at telling where you are and don't know how fast you are going. It can become disorienting in a foggy area (usually in the mornings) or when it is pouring heavily.
The next articles I will be writing will cover clothing, food and other necessities for week-long survival.
Check out my site about [http://kayak-paddle.org]kayak paddles! It will have some video reviews and more content information about kayak paddles and kayak paddle manufacturers in the future!

Important Factors To Consider When Choosing The Right Yacht Carpet Cleaning Method For Your Boat

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Avi_Dvir]Avi Dvir
When it comes to maintaining the integrity of a yacht or other large water vessel, maintaining the interior and inner components proves just as critical as upkeep on the hull and other exterior features. While many boat owners work hard to ensure most living spaces are clean and fresh, sanitizing the carpet and rugs in the crafts can easily get overlooked on the list of priorities. These high traffic areas can house dirt, grime and other microscopic toxins that not only look unsightly, but also can affect the health of everyone on board. If left untreated, these marine rugs can cause sinus issues, inflame allergies, induce migraines and allow for all sorts of respiratory conditions.
Various Yacht Carpet Cleaning Approaches: Home Remedies vs. The Professionals
Yacht carpet cleaning can help eliminate any of the esthetic and health concerns created in the boat areas that hold marine rugs. Because the spaces on a water vessel are uniquely constructed, disinfecting marine rugs has to be approached somewhat differently than other household spaces. When implementing yacht carpet cleaning on your water craft there are a few valid tactics to consider.
Steam Cleaning: Steaming these areas delivers both a valid and effective sanitizing method. Marine rugs often run less deep than the carpeting found in homes. This means that a steam cleaner can easily penetrate through even the toughest built in dirt and stains and deliver a fresh "like new" look to the steamed area in a short amount of time. Best of all, any boat owners can find local merchants who rent steamers to use as needed, rather than committing to purchasing one outright.
Industrial Vacuum: An industrial strength vacuum could offer an ideal solution for yacht carpet cleaning on areas that aren't heavily stained and soiled. A shop vac is designed for removing fragments that home vacuum systems simply can't manage. This means that boat owners can easily eliminate debris and even minimal amounts of liquid/water and help get the marine rugs on a boat looking clean very quickly.
Professional Yacht Carpet Cleaning Services: While steaming and vacuuming are both valid tactics, hiring the services of a professional yacht carpet cleaning company often yields the most effective results. Additionally, teaming with a company that specializes in yacht carpet cleaning also offers a wide range of benefits throughout the process. Professional vendors will have all the necessary equipment on hand to deliver a commercial grade sanitizing application to the marine rugs throughout your boat. From hardware like steaming equipment and nozzles all the way through to disinfecting solutions specifically designed for marine rugs, commercially recognized organizations will effectively eliminate you ever having to figure out what is needed to get the job done properly.
Further, partnering with a professional service for disinfecting marine rugs also delivers industrial strength application to germs, mold, mildew, spores and any other invisible toxins lurking about on these high foot traffic areas. After just one professional treatment, germs and other ground in pollutants are effectively removed to help ensure that the only thing everyone on board is inhaling is fresh, clean, crisp outdoor ocean air.
